BSc (Hons) Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (Health Visiting) with Integrated Nurse Prescribing
The Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN) (Health Visiting) course from the University of Bolton is designed to provide you with a comprehensive overview of the health visiting profession, with the aim of equipping you with both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills to succeed in your career. Our programme was the first in the country to be accredited by the UNICEF UK Baby Friendly Initiative, which recognises programmes that support mothers in effective breastfeeding. We also provide training in the Solihull Parenting Approach, which supports practitioners in promoting emotional health and wellbeing in children and families.
Studying a course curriculum developed in line with the professional standards of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), you’ll cover subjects like leading health promotion practice, collaborative working for health improvement and safeguarding children. You’ll also have the opportunity to get hands-on and build your practical skills in partnership with primary healthcare trusts and within our state-of-the-art healthcare teaching and research facility, Bolton One.
On successful completion of this course, you’ll be awarded a BSc (Hons) in Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (Health Visiting) and have your name registered on part 3 of the NMC's professional register.

Foundation / Access
If you do not meet the entry requirements for Year 1 entry you may be considered for an access/foundation programme.
Undergraduate entry to year 1
60% or above at standard XII (all boards)
Successful completion of a 2 year diploma (state board or approved polytechnic)
We accept applications for entry to year 2 & 3; however these are assessed on a case by case basis.
English Language
If you do not have 60% or above in Standard XII you will be required to complete a recognised English Language qualification
Where Evidence of English Language proficiency is required, we currently accept the following qualifications for admission onto our courses at degree level or above:
GCSE/O-Level in English from a UK awarding body grade C
IELTS (Academic) 6.0 for Undergraduate (no less than 5.5 in any component)
IELTS (Academic) 6.0 for Postgraduate (no less than 5.5 in any component)
Irish Leaving Certificate Ordinary Level English grade C/C3 or above

Cambridge Advanced English grade C (minimum of “weak” in all four components (listening, reading, speaking and writing)
