Double Degree Programmes in LLM-MPA

The National University of Singapore (NUS) double degree programmes comprising a Master of Laws (LLM) and Master in Public Administration (MPA) or Master in Public Policy (MPP) are offered by the NUS Faculty of Law and the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKYSPP).

The LLM and MPA/MPP double degree programmes aim to provide students of law and public administration and public policy broad exposure to the issues and challenges that lawyers and leaders of public institutions face.

These double degree programmes, launched in Academic Year (AY) 2008-2009, will be attractive options for students of both fields.

Applicants may elect to pursue one of the following LLM degrees, and an MPA or MPP:

  • • Intellectual Property & Technology Law
  • • Maritime Law

PSW Opportunity

  • The International Students studying in certain institutions in Singapore are allowed to work part time for 16 hours per week as mentioned on the Ministry of Manpower website of Singapore.
  • Students who have studied in the institutions mentioned on the Ministry of Manpower website of Singapore are allowed to apply for a Long Term Visitor Pass.
  • They are allowed to look for a job during this time period.This is for 12 months.If the students get a job during this time period, the employer may sponsor for an Employment pass.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Admission into the LLM-MPA/MPP double degree programmes is granted on a competitive basis as places in the programmes are limited. Applicants must fulfil the admission requirements for both degree programmes (i.e. LLM and either MPA or MPP) in order to gain admission. The minimum admission requirements for the LLM and MPA/MPP are as follows:

Applicants from English-medium institutions in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom or the United States:
  • No requirement
Applicants whose LLB or LLM degrees were conducted entirely in the English medium:
  • May submit a request with supporting documents for consideration (on a case-by-case basis) to be granted a waiver
Applicants whose native tongue and medium of university instruction is not completely in English:
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) minimum score of 100 (Internet-based), or
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) minimum Academic score of 7.5.
Candidates who have obtained a TOEFL score of 92—99 (Internet-based) or minimum IELTS (Academic) overall band score 7.0 may also apply, but may be invited to attend an interview or be required to undertake a prescribed intensive English language training course, prior to commencing law studies.
 
Note: TOEFL / IELTS scores are valid for two years from the test date and should not have expired at point of application. Expired scores will not be considered for the application. In view of COVID-19, TOEFL iBT® Special Home Edition, TOEFL ITP® Plus (with a score of at least 627) for China and IELTS indicator (with the same scores as the standard IELTS test) will be accepted in the interim until testing centres reopen.
