The Bachelor of Arts is the most diverse, most flexible, and most popular degree at The Australian National University. Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of a Bachelor of Arts, graduates will be able to:

  • critically apply theoretical frameworks and research techniques to understanding national and international issues and problems;
  • identify, including through interrogation of databases, relevant sources of information from across a variety of media (print and digital, written and audio-visual) and judge the importance and reliability of those sources;
  • evaluate ideas and develop creative solutions to problems, including through the independent pursuit of knowledge and making connections between different disciplinary approaches and methods;
  • communicate and debate both orally and in writing, and work with others, using a variety of media; and
  • understand the ethical implications of ideas, communications, and actions.

Our Acton campus is in the heart of Canberra - Australia's capital city - in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). From here it's an easy walk, bike ride or drive to some of Australia's most significant political and cultural institutions including Australian Parliament House. Amongst our modern lecture halls, libraries, laboratories, student residences and administration buildings, you'll find all the conveniences of a small suburb including cafes, bars, supermarkets, child care centres, a newsagency, post office and even a medical centre.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Applicants who complete a recognized secondary/senior secondary/post-secondary/tertiary sequence of study will be assessed on the basis of an equivalent selection rank that is calculated upon application. Applicants must also meet any program-specific requirements that are listed below.

In order to achieve these outcomes, a competitive ranking of applicants may be adjusted to ensure access to ANU is a reality for brilliant students from countries across the globe. If required, the competitive ranking may further be confirmed on the basis of demonstrating higher-level English language proficiency.

A score of 70% or more with no section less than 65%

Academic IELTS An overall score of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component of the test.

TOEFL paper based test A score of 570 with a TWE* score of 4.5.

TOEFL internet based test An overall score of 80, with a minimum of 20 in Reading and Writing and 18 in Speaking and Listening.

Cambridge CAE Advanced (Post 2015) An overall score of 176 with a minimum of 169 in all sub-skills.

PTE Academic An overall score of 64 with a minimum score of 55 in each of the communicative skills.

At a minimum, all applicants must meet program-specific academic/non-academic requirements, and English language requirements. Admission to most ANU programs is on a competitive basis. Therefore, meeting all admission requirements does not automatically guarantee entry.

Prerequisites

ELIBS Diploma of Liberal Studies (offered by the ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences)
