Civil Engineering is concerned with creative use of engineering principles and science to shape and improve our lives and our environment.
The work of the Civil Engineer centres on sustainable design for the built and natural environment, both onshore and offshore.

The interdisciplinary content of our curriculum and focus on practical applications and value to industry and society provide our students with the necessary intellectual and transferrable skills for a career in a number of industries.
Our teaching is supported by our excellent workshop and laboratories, with state-of-the-art equipment, including some of Scotland’s very best hydraulic equipment.
Graduate Apprenticeships
Each year, the University offerings a number of Graduate Apprenticeship places on the BEng Civil Engineering degree programme (SCQF Level 10). This four-year alternative route to the BEng Civil Engineering programme allows you to study for your honours degree while you continue working. As a Graduate Apprentice, you will undertake about 80% of your learning at work and 20% at university. Find out more.

The Old Aberdeen campus is the historic heart of the University and combines immaculately preserved buildings with state-of-the-art facilities for learning, research and recreation. The Schools incorporating the Arts and Social Sciences and Physical Sciences are based here.

Arts: At Standard XII a minimum percentage of 75% overall. Additionally, a minimum percentage of 80% in English at Standard XII or our normal English language requirements. The University of Aberdeen will also accept successful completion of the first year of a University degree programme as qualifying for first-year entry.
Science: At Standard XII a minimum percentage of 75% overall, including 75% or more in two science subjects, or Mathematics and a science subject. A minimum grade of 75% is required where the prospectus specifies good performance in a particular subject. Additionally, a minimum percentage of 80% in English at Standard XII or our normal English language requirements
