Law PhD
The Law School welcomes students who wish to pursue research degrees in law, and is able to provide supervision in a wide range of subjects. There is an active research community, and at any one time there are approximately 80 students from many parts of the world registered for a PhD or Masters Degree by research. Full time PhD students are provided with an office, a computer and access to the internet and printing facilities. Part time and Masters by Research students are given access to dedicated hot desk space.
A distinct law library is housed in the same building as the Law School's teaching and staff rooms. The library contains not only a comprehensive collection of Scots and English sources but also a substantial collection of European Union, Commonwealth and American materials. There is a particularly fine collection of books in the field of Roman and Roman-Dutch law. The University is a European Documentation Centre, and that collection is housed in the Law Library.
We have recently introduced a distance PhD programme. Students must demonstrate their ability to study independently without the support of the Law School campus community.

The Old Aberdeen campus is the historic heart of the University and combines immaculately preserved buildings with state-of-the-art facilities for learning, research and recreation. The Schools incorporating the Arts and Social Sciences and Physical Sciences are based here.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
Postgraduate: Requirements will vary dependant on recognition of University and scoring system used. As a guide, a score of between 60-80% is considered comparable to a UK 2.1, while a score of between 50-69% is considered comparable to a UK 2.2, depending on the ranking of the institution.
Please note that in many cases applicants will not need to submit IELTS scores if they have achieved 80% or above in HSC Yr XII or if they have a letter from their former university demonstrating that their degree was taught in English.
To study for a Postgraduate Taught degree at the University of Aberdeen it is essential that you can speak, understand, read, and write English fluently. The minimum requirements for this degree are as follows:
