Doctor of Dental Medicine
The course consists of a total of 32 units within modularised streams covering comprehensive clinical care, Developmental & Behavioural Sciences, Diagnostic & Surgical Sciences, Restorative & Rehabilitative Sciences. DMD core modules cover fundamental dental and medical sciences. DMD clinical practice modules cover clinical dental sciences, including patient care, preventative and conservative dentistry, restorative dentistry and child and adolescent dental health. You'll have early clinical exposure with dental immersion activities on introductory concepts in clinical dentistry, pre clinical exercises including dental simulation from first year. In your third year you'll actively engage in a research project. In your final year, you'll undertake quasi-independent but supervised practice, which takes place inside and outside of the School with compulsory rural and private practice rotations.
The school is equipped with a state-of-the-art digital radiology suite. The centralised production lab is fully equipped with Computer Aided Design (CAD)/Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) facilities and dedicated high spec computers in a Virtual Learning Centre (VLC) for students to undertake CA/CAM design. The VLC has full functional digital radiology and virtual microscopy facilitates.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
(1)
(a) a bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent qualification, as recognised by UWA; and
(b)the equivalent of a UWA grade point average (GPA) of at least 5.5; and
(c)
(i) a Graduate Medical School Admissions Test (GAMSAT 1) overall score of at least 50 and no section score less than 50; or
(ii) a Medical College Admission Test (MCAT 2 ) score of at least 123/123/123/123, with an overall minimum of 492.
(2) Invitation to attend the structured interview will be based on equal weightings under (1)(b) and (c), in alignment with the interview quota for the year.
(3) Eligible applicants who are interviewed will be assessed based on the personal qualities considered desirable in dental practitioners and will undergo a spatial awareness test.
(4) Admission will be awarded to the highestranked applicants under (1), (2) and (3) who fall within the intake quota for that year, based on equal weighting of the GAMSAT/MCAT, GPA and interview for non-rural applicants, and based on equal weighting of the GAMSAT, GPA, interview and rurality ranking for rural applicants.
(5) Direct Pathway students are exempt from (1)(c).
