Bachelor of Science (Hons) Biochemistry

Provide a research-informed, understanding of biochemistry (which includes; biomolecular sciences, molecular biology, genome science and cell biology) for students from differing academic backgrounds that encourages them to achieve their academic and personal potential.

Introduce students to the practice and evaluation of scientific research in terms of conceptual approach and research methodologies underpinning biochemistry, culminating in the opportunity for independent research provided in the final-year project.

Provide a course in line with the Biosciences Benchmark statement, and the Core Curriculum as set out by the Biochemical Society, drawing on specialist experience of teaching and research staff.

Develop students’ intellectual, critical and practical skills in the acquisition, analysis, interpretation, evaluation and presentation of biochemical information.

Train students in ethical, safe and responsible handling of biological materials, chemicals and laboratory equipment.

Provide a firm foundation for students to progress into careers in biochemical or biomedical research, further training or employment in industry or the public sector in which analytical, communication and problem-solving skills are required.

Provide opportunities to develop appropriate study and transferable skills (such as: time management, independent & group work, laboratory expertise, experimental design, data recording, management and analysis, numeric, IT (word-processing, presentation, spreadsheets, email, WWW and bibliographic management software), oral and written communication, information retrieval, literature review and report writing skills) to equip students with effective strategies for maintain.

Full-Time Positions (Non-Academic & Academic)

Academic Positions (Part-Time)
Associate Lecturer(s) will be appointed on part-time basis to cater to short-term teaching requirements. After the recruitment process has concluded, the official appointment will take place three (3) to six (6) months prior to the commencement of classes or it will be subject to the availability of teaching classes.

Applicants must possess a recognised University degree. Any other relevant professional qualifications, industry experience and pedagogical training would be advantageous.

PSW Opportunity

  • The International Students studying in certain institutions in Singapore are allowed to work part time for 16 hours per week as mentioned on the Ministry of Manpower website of Singapore.
  • Students who have studied in the institutions mentioned on the Ministry of Manpower website of Singapore are allowed to apply for a Long Term Visitor Pass.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must be of age 17 and above, and meet at least one of the following requirements:

For Year 1 / Level 4 entry:
3 GCE 'A' Levels including Biology and Chemistry (adding up to at least 112 UCAS tariff points), with minimum Grade B for Biology or Chemistry, or equivalent

OR 

International Foundation Diploma in Biomedical Sciences awarded by MDIS

OR

Relevant qualifications awarded by other Private Education Institutions (PEIs) or recognised Higher Education providers in life-sciences/biological-sciences-related disciplines, (which are deemed by the University to be suitable as pathway programmes for entry onto the Level 4 / Year 1 of the University course) with an entry requirement of 10 years of formal education*

For Year 2 / Level 5 entry^:
Relevant diploma level qualifications awarded by other Private Education Institutions (PEIs) or recognised Higher Education providers in life-sciences/biological-sciences-related disciplines (which are deemed by the University to be equivalent to Level 4 / Year 1 of the University course) with an entry requirement of 12 years of formal education

For Year 3 / Level 6 entry^:
Relevant polytechnic diplomas in life-sciences/biological-sciences-related disciplines (which are deemed by the University to be equivalent to Level 4 / Year 1 AND Level 5 / Year 2 of the University course) with a pass grade

OR

Relevant overseas polytechnic diplomas in life-sciences/biological-sciences-related disciplines (which are deemed by the University to be equivalent to Level 4 / Year 1 AND Level 5 / Year 2 of the University source) with an entry requirement of 10 years of formal education

OR

Higher National Diploma (HND) in life-sciences/biological-sciences-related disciplines OR relevant PEI qualification in life-sciences/biological-sciences-related disciplines (which are deemed by the University to be equivalent to Level 4 / Year 1 AND Level 5 / Year 2 of the University course) with entry requirement of 12 years of formal education
