Early Childhood (Grades PreK-3) Licensure BSE

A major in Early Childhood Education sets you up with everything you need for Ohio teaching licensure for pre-kindergarten through third grade.

From your first semester to your final day of student teaching, a bachelor's degree (four years) in Early Childhood Education gives you the direction you need to teach our next generation. Someday, you'll walk into your own classroom, materials in hand and ideas in mind to build a unique learning environment that nurtures and encourages your young learners.

Your classes at Shawnee go beyond basic methodology and subject matter. With classes like Child and Adolescent Psychology, Art in the Curriculum, Understanding Cultural Diversity, and Matching Books with Readers, you learn practical skills from professors across several departments. You'll finish your degree with the experience you need to lead your whole class on learning adventures, and also guide each student through their own unique challenges.

After three years of foundational classes with your peers, you'll spend the first half of your fourth year preparing for student teaching. Then, you'll round out your time at Shawnee in a classroom of your own, working side-by-side with a current teacher for your final semester.
