English/Humanities - Integrated Language Arts with Adolescent to Young Adult (Grades 7-12) Licensure BA
It's easy to tell when teachers are passionate about their subject. When you love what you're teaching, your students will be more excited about learning. So whether your passion is for Language Arts & Reading, Mathematics, Science, Earth Science, Life Science, Physical Science, or Social Studies, our four-year program will prepare you to walk confidently into your first classroom.
In the adolescent to young adult teaching degree program at Shawnee State, you'll learn the methods and skills you need to teach in your area of concentration. Our program combines clinical (teaching) experience with classroom learning, and gives you all of the coursework you need to sit for the Ohio licensure exams.
In your first year in our program, you'll focus on general education and basic teaching courses to build a solid foundation. In your second year, you'll gradually add more specialized courses in your area of concentration. By years three and four, you'll combine clinical experience with secondary education courses and courses in your area of concentration.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
Shawnee State University welcomes students from all cultures. International students may apply for admission to Shawnee State University by:
- Submitting final transcript(s) from high school and college.
- Providing documents demonstrating that you have the financial resources to support yourself for one year at Shawnee State University.
- Providing proof of an official score of 500 (paper-based), 170 (computer-based), or 60 (internet-based), at a minimum, on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or 5.5 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or 80 on the Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) is required for admission to a degree program for students whose native language is not English. TOEFL can send your scores directly to SSU. For TOEFL to do so it will need our code. Shawnee State University’s code is 1790.
- Admission to the Nursing program at SSU requires a TOEFL score of 84 with a minimum English-speaking score of 26.
