Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership

The Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership can be completed in one year of full-time study, over a multiyear period of part-time study, or in conjunction with another degree. The Certificate consists of eight courses (Introduction to the Nonprofit Sector, Nonprofit Leadership: People Management, Nonprofit Leadership: Governance & Strategy, Principles of Marketing, Nonprofit Sector Marketing, Nonprofit Financial Management) and two electives chosen from nonprofit related courses from the Department of Business Administration, Department of Communication Studies, Women’s Studies, Political Studies, Canadian Studies, and Sociology.

Job Opportunity Potential

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

International applicants are expected to have completed a preparatory program that leads to university entrance in their own country.

High School Students
In general, secondary school applicants have an average of 70% (5 best scoring academic subjects considered) during their final year of schooling. Applicants looking to transfer from another post-secondary institution must demonstrate an overall GPA of 2.0. Refer to chart below for program specific requirements.

Canadian High School Curriculum

Students in Canadian curriculum high schools must have an overall average of 70% in their five best academic subjects with a minimum of 60% in each individual subject. Each program has specific requirements, please refer to the program requirements chart below to ensure admissibility.

Advanced Placement

The Mount participates in the Advanced Placement Program administered by the College Board in Princeton, New Jersey. Students may receive transfer credits for the following Advanced Placement Examinations provided they have achieved grades of four or five: Biology, Computer Studies, Economics, English, Mathematics, Political Studies, Psychology and Spanish. IGCSE / GCSE or Cambridge “O” & “A” Levels

British System applicants need grades of A, B or C in five subjects, including two A (Advanced) levels or four AS (Advanced Subsidiary) levels and three O (Ordinary) level courses, or the equivalent in Scottish Highers or Welsh Baccalaureate. Program specific requirements also need to be met.

International Baccalaureate

Mount Saint Vincent University welcomes applicants holding the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma. Students enrolled in the IB program may receive transfer credit for a maximum of five credits for Higher Level IB courses with final grades of five, six or seven upon presentation of the completed diploma. Students receiving transfer credit for IB courses are advised to contact graduate and professional schools to determine the effect of those credits on their plans for future study and their career goals.
