International Foundation Diploma (IFD)

Your week will include creative workshop sessions, tutorials, lectures as well as preparation for academic study sessions. Preparation for academic study will help you to understand critical practice, how to structure and write academic essays and present and evaluate work, as well as incorporate any additional English language tuition where appropriate.

The Careers and Employability Service is dedicated to supporting you in turning your creativity into a great career.

This is why course teams ensure employability is embedded in your curriculum, and why we provide quality information and guidance to help you stand out and prepare you to embark on your professional future.

We also have a dedicated careers platform (AUB AdvantageCareer Hub) for students and alumni with careers resources, job opportunities and events. Students are also able to book an appointment with a Careers Coach.

Services we offer

The Careers and Employability team are Alison Zorraquin, Senior Employability Officer and Emily Rogers, Employability Officer.

Our goal is to support students and Alumni in preparation for working in industry and to develop their careers. We offer careers appointments and organise a series of events and workshops on campus, including:

  • Lunchtime webinars: Run by the Career team, these workshops cover topics ranging from CVs to networking and using LinkedIn
  • Industry Professionals on campus: Every year we invite professionals from Industry to give tips and advice about breaking into the creative industry as well as providing start-up and freelance advice

One-to-one Appointments

Any AUB student or graduate can book a one-to-one virtual appointment via Zoom or Microsoft Teams with Alison or Emily to discuss their plans or simply to gain information and advice on a wide range of topics including:

  • Looking for graduate or professional roles and part-time work
  • Applying for jobs and internships
  • Writing a professional CV, cover letter or application
  • Applying for further professional or post-graduate study

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Entry Qualifications

Entry to a Foundation course usually follows two years of sixth form study, but we also consider relevant and equivalent Level 3 qualifications.

To study on the Foundation course, you’ll need:

5 GCSE or IGCSE passes at Grade C/Grade 4 or above. These should include a relevant Art, Design or Media subject and must include Maths and English.
Due to recent changes in government funding, home and EU applicants who are under 19 when the course starts must hold GCSE/IGCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths to be able to enrol onto this course.

If a student does not have IGCSE/ GCSE Maths and English at Grade C/4 or above and they are under 19, then we will not receive funding. We are unable to enrol applicants who do not hold these qualifications or an acceptable equivalent.

We are unable to accept Functional Skills, Key Skills or ALAN (Adult Literacy and Numeracy) tests in place of Maths or English from applicants who will be under 19 when the course starts.

You’ll also need one of the following:

  • A minimum of two GCE A Level passes at Grade C or above. One of these should be in a relevant creative subject.
  • Two BTEC Subsidiary Diplomas/BTEC Extended Certificate at Merit, or a combination of BTEC Subsidiary Diploma/BTEC Extended Certificate and A Level qualifications.
  • An IB (International Baccalaureate) scores equivalent to CC at A level. We’ll accept the equivalent in relevant individual IB certificates.
  • A BTEC/UAL Extended Diploma Merit.
  • A BTEC/OCR (Tech) Extended Diploma at Merit, Pass.

If you are an applicant from the EU, you must also hold equivalent Level 2 qualifications in Maths, as assessed by NARIC, and an appropriate English Language qualification.

India – 55% on 12th standard + 55% on 10th standard (including maths) Accepted exam boards: CBSE, CISCE, Maharashtra, Delhi, Tamil Nadu & West Bengal.

Foundation Diploma

If you need a visa to study in the UK, you must obtain a Secure English Language Test (SELT). Without this, you won't be eligible for a visa. We can accept the following:

IELTS for UKVI (Academic) overall score of 5.5 with 5.0 in each band (reading, writing, speaking, listening)
Trinity College London Integrated Skills in English (ISE II) or (ISE III) UKVI with a pass.

International Foundation Diploma (IFD)

If you need a visa to study in the UK, you must obtain a Secure English Language Test (SELT). Without this, you won't be eligible for a visa. We can accept the following:

  • Academic IELTS with an overall score of 5.0 and a minimum score of 4.5 in each band
  • LanguageCert B2 Communicator (both written and speaking tests) with a pass in all four components (speaking, writing, listening and reading)
  • GCSE English, Language or English Literature with a grade C or grade 4
  • IGCSE First or Second Language English with a grade C
  • Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) or C1 Advanced with a grade of C
  • Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) or C2 Proficiency with a grade C
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE) overall score of 45 with a minimum of 43 in each component (reading, writing, speaking, listening)
