B.SC (HONS) CHEMISTRY WITH PROFESSIONAL STUDIES

Chemistry is one of the most versatile scientific disciplines and opportunities in the field continue to grow and develop. We integrate the core branches of organic, physical, inorganic and analytical chemistry to meet the needs of employers for highly skilled chemists across the range of modern chemical industries.

With an emphasis on integrating your understanding of concepts and applying laboratory skills to find answers to current problems, you will appreciate how chemistry and its applications can transform the world we live in. You will gain experience in sustainable chemistry, a vital area of the modern chemicals industry, also known as ‘green’ chemistry.  

We pride ourselves on our research and have recently invested extensively in our facilities to ensure that you are able to complete research projects that are exciting and inspiring, contributing useful findings to the field. Examples of research areas include nanotechnology, drug design and repurposing, cancer and antimicrobial research, analytical chemistry and molecular modelling.

Job Opportunity Potential

Graduates from the course will be highly skilled and particularly well suited to address the skills shortages in the chemical sector. The sector has highlighted the requirement for chemistry graduates with a knowledge of sustainability and green chemistry which this course provides. Potential employers of chemistry graduates include chemical, pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. We place a high emphasis on employability, placements and technical support meaning that our graduates are fully equipped to enter into industry or pursue further study.

A BSc in Chemistry will provide you with chemical and transferable skills, both of which are highly regarded by employers from different sectors including CRO (contract research organisations), small and big pharma, analytical based companies (both independent and governmental - such as forensic analysis), and a varied range of chemical industries including lubricants, synthesis, quality control, food, cosmetics, materials, construction, toiletries, clinical settings and more. Transferable skills will allow you to seek work in several areas such as research, development, quality assurance, teaching, on legal cases, within government and more.

PSW Opportunity

  • 2 Years PSW is applicable after completing a minimum duration of 9 months course (like- Undergraduate, Postgraduate Level)
  • 3 Years PSW is applicable after completing PhD level courses.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

GCSE

English language and mathematics at grade C or 4 or above

Undergraduate

The following grades are normally required (exam board in brackets): 50% (West Bengal), 55% (ISC, awarded by CISCE), 60% (CBSE), 65% (all other state boards) for undergraduate study.
