MA Choreography and Performance Practices

Practice is at the heart of MA Choreography and Performance Practices at Lincoln. This studio-based programme is designed to attract dance and movement practitioners interested in dance performance, choreography, facilitation, and research. The programme is designed to directly addresses the changing landscape of contemporary dance and performance by encouraging students to engage with, and challenge, existing ideas and trends.

Students can benefit from guidance through the process of examining and exploring choreographic strategies relevant to their chosen fields, and work towards creating and performing professional-level dance performance works. The programme aims to enable students to enhance their skills as professional artists, and offers the opportunity to explore the qualities needed for a multi-faceted career in dance by exploring facilitation in a variety of contexts.

Throughout the course, students have opportunities to explore the theoretical underpinning of their practice. Our academic staff can guide students through a wealth of contemporary literature in the field of dance, choreography, philosophy, and performance, and students may engage in critical debate about their own and other students' practice.

In keeping with the drive within contemporary industry and scholarship towards collaboration and interdisciplinary research, this course is designed to incorporate specialisms from adjacent disciplines within the School of Fine and Performing Arts, including theatre, music, fine art, and musical theatre. Students can benefit from working closely with academics who have extensive professional experience, and from our programme of lectures and seminars from visiting artists.

The School of Fine and Performing Arts has close links with industry meaning students may be introduced to professional dance partnerships as a means of establishing their work as innovative and skilled dance artists.
