MSc Skin Lesion Management

This programme has been developed to meet the specific needs of practitioners diagnosing and managing patients with benign and malignant skin lesions. This is a unique programme that benefits from shared, inter-professional learning and incorporates a range of taught postgraduate modules supported by workplace-based learning.

This programme is suitable for you work regularly with patients with skin lesions or particularly skin cancer  and you are wanting to undertake further specialist training to develop your career in this clinical area. This postgraduate course offers a structured educational programme in skin lesion management but does not focus on cosmetic dermatology and would not usually be suitable for solely aesthetic practitioners who are not working in UK NHS clinical practice.

The programme is offered in full time (12 - 14 months) and part time modes (2-5 years) and leads to the award of MSc Skin Lesion Management, Postgraduate Diploma Skin Lesion Management or Postgraduate Certificate Skin Lesion Management.

Campus Information

College Lane Campus

The main site of the university remains the College Lane campus, which houses the original Hatfield Technical College building. Notable among the buildings in this campus is the university's Learning Resource Centre, a combined library and computer centre. There is also a substantial collection of halls of residence and student houses, and the University of Hertfordshire Students' Union is headquartered at College Lane campus. The College Lane campus is also the location of Hertfordshire International College, which is part of the Navitas group, providing a direct pathway for international students to the University.

Studying the programme may support entry to dermatology specialist training programmes and is ideally suited to doctors training to become GPs with an Extended Role in Dermatology (GPwER). Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Entry requirements

The normal entry requirements for the program are:

A degree in a healthcare discipline (or equivalent) & be registered with a professional and statutory body, plus:

  • The equivalent of 2 years Full-Time post-qualifying experience (excluding internship) including a minimum of 6 months Full Time (or equivalent) in the management and surveillance of a range of benign and malignant skin lesions prior to program commencement; and,
  • Access and exposure to patients with benign and malignant skin lesions. This will usually be a minimum of 4 hours per week throughout the period of study.

Postgraduate taught

  • Completion of a Bachelor degree in a relevant subject area with 55-65% or above depending on course
  • IELTS 6.0 or 6.5 (depends on course) with no less than 5.5 in any band - some courses require higher
  • Standard XII English with 70% will also be accepted
