MSc Computer Science (Online)

The course is specially designed for graduates of numerate subjects other than computer science. It is mostly taught separately from the other courses. It intensively covers a broad range of the key principles and techniques of computer science. There is an emphasis on software development, in particular when applied to solve problems in other disciplines.

College Lane Campus

The main site of the university remains the College Lane campus, which houses the original Hatfield Technical College building. Notable among the buildings in this campus is the university's Learning Resource Centre, a combined library and computer centre. There is also a substantial collection of halls of residence and student houses, and the University of Hertfordshire Students' Union is headquartered at College Lane campus. The College Lane campus is also the location of Hertfordshire International College, which is part of the Navitas group, providing a direct pathway for international students to the University.

Entry requirements

For admission to the MSc Computer Science (Online):

You should have a recent good Honours Degree in a non-Computer Science subject combined with knowledge or experience of computing that goes beyond that of an end-user.
Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate sufficient competence in English to benefit from the Programme. This is normally demonstrated by recognized awards equivalent to an overall IELTS score of 6.0 Candidates who do not satisfy these requirements will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Access to computer equipment with the following minimum specification.

Postgraduate taught

Completion of a Bachelor degree in a relevant subject area with 55-65% or above depending on course
IELTS 6.0 or 6.5 (depends on course) with no less than 5.5 in any band - some courses require higher
Standard XII English with 70% will also be accepted
