Engineering Year Zero

This course gives you the core skills in science, mathematics, design, and IT, required to study engineering or physics at the undergraduate level.

This course can be a stepping stone towards one of our undergraduate engineering degrees upon successful completion and is a great place to start if you are returning to study. It is suitable for people from a wide range of backgrounds particularly mature students, as well as people looking for a change of career, or who do not meet the BEng (Hons) entry criteria for example

Job Opportunity Potential

Upon successful completion of Engineering Year Zero you can progress to the first year of our Mechanical Engineering BEng (Hons), Mechatronics BEng (Hons) or Electronic Engineering BEng (Hons). After completing your choice of the full BEng (Hons) engineering course you can choose to continue with further study to a masters level programme or pursue a career in your preferred field of engineering.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Entry criteria

  • Five GCSEs at grade C or above, including English and Mathematics, plus one of the following:
  • Normally 56 UCAS points from at least one A-level or equivalent or
  • BTEC National Diploma/ Extended Diploma at MPP or
  • Pass in the QAA Access to HE. English and Mathematics GCSE required as a separate qualification as equivalency is not accepted within the Access qualification. We will normally require students to have had a break from full-time education before undertaking the Access course or
  • International Baccalaureate: 24+ points

Interview Required: No

We welcome applications from mature students with non-standard qualifications and recognize all other equivalent and international qualifications.

India

  • Minimum of 65% average in your four best subjects (excluding Hindi) in Standard 12. We may also check your standard 10 results in English and Maths.
  • For Engineering courses, you will need a minimum of 60% in Maths. 

2nd year - 3rd-year Undergraduate:

  • Entry to year 2 or 3 may be possible. You will need to supply detailed information including courses taken, grades achieved, syllabus, and a grading guide.

Sri Lanka

  • 55-65% in three A-levels, depending on the course you choose.

Bangladesh

  • A-levels or a recognized Foundation Course
