GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN TACTICAL MEDICINE

Mass casualty and terrorist attacks are on the increase in the current geopolitical climate as Australia grows its presence on the world stage. As a result, first responders have to be ready to manage and react to emergencies in very high-risk environments where their personal safety may be compromised. In this unique contemporary course, you will learn to plan and implement strategies and develop a range of clinical, critical-thinking, communications and leadership skills essential for the successful management of acute trauma. Highly relevant to members of the Australian Defence Force, police and ambulance services as well as all those involved at the advanced life support of victims of mass casualty and terrorist attacks, this course will equip you with the skills to quickly react and respond to these events.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

  • Completion of a bachelor's degree with the equivalent to an Australian pass grade average in the final two terms, from a, recognized higher education institution.

To be eligible for entry into this course, applicants must demonstrate one of the following:

A completed Bachelor of Paramedic Science, or equivalent, with 1 year clinical operational experience at a minimum level of Advanced Care Paramedic; or
A completed Bachelor of Nursing, or equivalent, with 1 year relevant clinical experience as a Registered Nurse; or
A completed Diploma in Paramedic Science plus 1 year of unsupervised clinical operational experience; or
Current or past employment as an ADF Combat Medic or Police Medic; or
Current employment in a relevant field as well as evidence of a completed short course in Tactical Medicine.
Employment and clinical experience must be demonstrated by providing a letter of employment or statement of service, listing duties undertaken and length of time employed in the relevant position. Letters of employment must be presented on employers letterhead, signed and dated by a delegated authority within the organisation.


English Language Proficiency Requirements:
If you were not born in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa or United States of America you are required to meet the English Language Proficiency requirements set by the University.
Applicants are required to provide evidence of completion of:

a secondary qualification (Year 11 or 12, or equivalent), or
tertiary diploma level qualification, or
bachelor level qualification study for a period of at least 2 years full-time with a minimum overall GPA 4.0 completed within Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom, South Africa, Ireland, or United States of America.
If you do not satisfy any of the above you will need to undertake an English language proficiency test and achieve the following scores as below:

An International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic) overall band score of at least 6.0 overall with a minimum 5.5 in each subset; or
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - Requires 550 or better overall & minimum TWE score of 4.5 (Paper Based Test), or 75 or better overall and no score less than 17 (Internet Based Test); or
Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) - Requires an overall score of 54 with no sub-score less than 46; or
An Occupational English Test with Grades A or B only in each of the four components
