Graduate Diploma in Public Health
The University of Sydney School of Public Health programs focus on the prevention of illness and the promotion of health.

Specialise in your chosen field – the 1.5-year Master of Public Health will provide you the time needed to build competency and gain skills from a wide range of public health electives, allowing you specialise in an area that interests you and boosts your career prospects. You will be able to choose your elective units from within one of four specialisations:
chronic disease prevention
communicable disease control
health promotion and advocacy
research methods.
Apply public health principles - newly designed core units and electives will provide you with the skills needed to translate evidence and decisions into policy and practice at a national, regional and community level.
Research training – our Research Project capstone will equip you with the critical thinking skills and research training necessary to prepare you for a higher research degree.
First-class teaching – this course is taught by highly experienced academic staff who are active within the public health community and work closely with organisations such as the World Health Organisation, the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, the Department of Health and Cancer Australia.
Make a real difference – you will be involved in teams and projects that are making a real difference to the health and wellbeing of individuals, communities and populations.
Diverse placement opportunities – you will have the opportunity to undertake a diverse range of professional placements and apply knowledge learnt in class to real-world projects with location-based organisations. Our students have completed placements with a range of organisations including NSW Environmental Health, NSW Cancer Council, NSW Health Protection unit, Safe Work Australia and the Heart Foundation.

Career pathways
The Graduate Diploma in Public Health leads to hands on careers in public health, such as working with people in the field, as well as research-oriented jobs which involve conducting studies and examining overall health trends. Careers in public health include working as a public health officer in government health departments; health education/promotion officer; clinical research manager; health information manager or health project manager.
PSW Opportunity
Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.
- Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
- Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
- Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
- The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants
Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:
- Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
- Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
- Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
- PhD students can stay upto 4 years
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
A successful applicant for admission to the Graduate Diploma in Public Health will hold a degree from the University of Sydney or equivalent qualification. In exceptional circumstances the dean may admit applicants without these qualifications who, in the opinion of the School, have qualifications and evidence of experience and achievement sufficient to successfully undertake the award.
TOEFL - IBT score - A minimum result of 85 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing
IELTS score - A minimum result of 6.5 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band
TOEFL - PBT score - A minimum result of 565 overall including a minimum result of 4.5 in Writing
Pearsons Test of English - A minimum result of 61 overall and a minimum result of 54 in each band
