Electrical and Electronic Engineering University Route (incorporating HND Electrical Engineering)

If you want to pursue a career as an electrical engineer, this course is designed for you.  
 
Electrical and Electronic Engineering is a two-year course taught at Edinburgh College’s Midlothian campus that, once complete, allows you to enter the university as a third-year student. 

In year one you will follow the HNC Electrical Engineering course. You will learn essential industry skills through various graded units including Mathematics and Engineering. Upon completion, you will be fully prepared to begin your second year HND.  
 
Progression to the HND will provide you with practical skills and an understanding of advanced electrical concepts and theories. You will use the latest software and study technical subjects to give you a practical understanding of Analogue Digital Electronics and Microcontroller Units (MCU). 
 
In your third and fourth year as an electrical and electronic engineer student, you will study at Edinburgh Napier University or Heriot-Watt University. These are degree-level studies where you will develop your skills and knowledge even further; gaining practical knowledge through large team-based projects; incorporating digital and software design mechanics and management. You will develop a high level of electrical and electronic engineering knowledge and be fully trained to begin your future career as an engineer.

Campus Information

Milton Road Campus

The Milton Road Campus is based in the East of Edinburgh near the City Bypass. This campus provides innovative and purpose-built facilities that deliver modern educational qualifications and skills. Our CRE:8 centre has industry standard equipment and facilities for musicians, sound engineers and TV producers. These include a 96 seat auditorium (suitable for music performances, film and TV viewings), film studios, music recording studios, music rehearsal spaces and AVID editing suites for TV production. One of our training restaurants, eh15 is situated at Milton Road and provides not only a first-class training centre but also a tremendous place to dine, with views of the City. The students prepare and serve the best in local, fresh produce, under the close supervision of the restaurant manager and head chef. The main gym and spa facilities of the college are to be found in the Club. Students can take advantage of discounted rates to indulge in facilities designed to enhance health, fitness and wellbeing. The gym is equipped with the latest in resistance training machines and cardio equipment. There are group classes taught by our motivating instructors. Bliss is based in the exclusive beauty rooms beside the nail bar, where students can treat their hands, nails and feet to a lovely makeover.

  • 12 years of school education with good results in subjects relevant to the course you apply for             
  • IELTS 5.5, with a minimum of 5.5 in each component band, or equivalent.
