BSc (Hons) Nursing (Adult)

Nursing is a highly-skilled, rewarding, and caring profession where you can make a real difference in people’s lives. In adult nursing, you’ll promote health and provide whole-person care in hospitals and the community. Throughout this pre-registration course, you’ll develop critical, analytical, and reflective skills that allow you to make sound judgments and evidence-based care. Half the course will be spent at the university, where you’ll learn the theoretical foundations of nursing. The other half will be spent in a variety of clinical settings, developing your hands-on skills.

This integration of theory and practice will ensure you become a skilled, competent, compassionate, and committed adult nurse.

Work placement

Practice placements are organized within neighboring NHS Trusts in Hertfordshire, and London and in other settings including the private and voluntary sectors. There is the opportunity to learn with and from people in the community and in hospitals where nursing is experienced. The placement experiences are wide and varied, emphasizing the chosen field of practice -Adult Nursing. During the first year, experiences may also include caring for children, service users with learning disabilities, or those with mental health problems.
A student-led placement is offered at the end of the second year which gives you the opportunity to gain clinical experience in an area of practice you are interested in.

Campus Information

College Lane Campus

The main site of the university remains the College Lane campus, which houses the original Hatfield Technical College building. Notable among the buildings in this campus is the university's Learning Resource Centre, a combined library and computer centre. There is also a substantial collection of halls of residence and student houses, and the University of Hertfordshire Students' Union is headquartered at College Lane campus. The College Lane campus is also the location of Hertfordshire International College, which is part of the Navitas group, providing a direct pathway for international students to the University.

Following successful completion of the program, you will be entitled to apply for registration as a nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council in the Branch of Nursing in which you have specialized. All offers will be subject to the applicant's demonstration of the NHS constitution’s “Values and Behaviours”, satisfactory interviews, functional Skills level 2 in Maths and English also acceptable, health screening and the Disclosure and Barring Services (DBS) checks.

Undergraduate (year 1)

Completion of the Standard XII Certificate with 60-70% depending on points tariff required by the UH course. Some courses may require specific subjects
IELTS 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in any band for standard courses – some courses require higher
Standard XII English with 65% will also be accepted

Undergraduate (year 2/3)
