We have particular teaching expertise in various areas of numerical modelling, financial mathematics, algebra, statistics, optimisation and mathematical physics. You can even choose to take a year out to study abroad or undertake a placement.

Study abroad

This course offers you the opportunity to study abroad in the Sandwich Year through the University's Study Abroad programme. Study abroad opportunities are available worldwide and in Europe under the Erasmus+ Programme.
Past students have gone on research and study abroad placements to the US, Canada, Australia, France, Germany, Switzerland and Singapore. 

Work placement

All of our Mathematics degree programmes can be taken as a sandwich degree, with a professional placement year. We have a dedicated Placements Tutor in our School who, along with the Careers & Placements Service, will help you find and set up your placement. Within the UK our students have worked at Glaxo-SmithKline, Roche, NHS, Warner Bros, BAE Systems. A placement year greatly enhances your employability prospects (many of our placement students start the final year of their degree with a job offer from their placement company) and is financially and personally rewarding.

Campus Information

College Lane Campus

The main site of the university remains the College Lane campus, which houses the original Hatfield Technical College building. Notable among the buildings in this campus is the university's Learning Resource Centre, a combined library and computer centre. There is also a substantial collection of halls of residence and student houses, and the University of Hertfordshire Students' Union is headquartered at College Lane campus. The College Lane campus is also the location of Hertfordshire International College, which is part of the Navitas group, providing a direct pathway for international students to the University.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

UCAS Points

  • 112

A Level

  • BBC: A minimum of a grade C required in Mathematics.

BTEC

  • DMM: Applied Science as well as A-Level Maths grade C.

IB requirement

  • 112 points: Must include maths at HL grade 4 or above.

GCSE: Grade 4/D in English and 4/C Mathematics

Access Course Tariff: Diploma with 45 Level 3 credits of which 15 must be in maths at a minimum of Merit.

Undergraduate (year 1)

  • Completion of the Standard XII Certificate with 60-70% depending on points tariff required by the UH course. Some courses may require specific subjects
  • IELTS 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in any band for standard courses – some courses require higher
  • Standard XII English with 65% will also be accepted

Undergraduate (year 2/3)

  • Depending on qualifications and course - usually require 2/3 year Diploma post-Standard XII to be considered
