BSc (Hons) Motorsport Technology

Excitement, international travel, and working in a high- performing team to achieve success are just some of the major attractions of motorsport. It’s an industry that allows you to work at the cutting edge of automotive technology. This course will give you the skills necessary to support motorsport engineers as they push the boundaries and strive for optimum vehicle performance. Benefiting from world-class expertise and facilities, you’ll study a wide range of modules, including the fundamentals of the vehicle and engine design, as well as high-tech computer-aided design and manufacturing techniques. You’ll also have the unique chance to work with engineering students in designing, building, and racing a Formula Student race car.

Work placement

You have the opportunity to spend a year working either in a professional research environment or within the industry. The practical experience you gain will be of tremendous benefit both when you resume your studies and when you embark on a career. Students have previously undertaken placements in organizations such as:

Study abroad

This course offers you the opportunity to study abroad in the Sandwich Year through the University's study abroad program. Study abroad opportunities are available worldwide and in Europe under the Erasmus+ Programme.

Campus Information

College Lane Campus

The main site of the university remains the College Lane campus, which houses the original Hatfield Technical College building. Notable among the buildings in this campus is the university's Learning Resource Centre, a combined library and computer centre. There is also a substantial collection of halls of residence and student houses, and the University of Hertfordshire Students' Union is headquartered at College Lane campus. The College Lane campus is also the location of Hertfordshire International College, which is part of the Navitas group, providing a direct pathway for international students to the University.

Job Opportunity Potential

Graduates have the flexibility to gain employment within the automotive sector working in specialist laboratories and test facilities or specialisation in CAD/CAM to make high-performance automotive products; however, the breadth and flexibility of this course will also open doors to careers in other branches of engineering, computing or business with graduates using their knowledge and skills to be employed in the amateur side of the sport.

Our graduates can be found in all areas of the automotive sector, working in specialist laboratories and test facilities, or specialising in computer-aided design to make high-performance automotive products. Undergraduate (year 1)

  • Completion of the Standard XII Certificate with 60-70% depending on points tariff required by the UH course. Some courses may require specific subjects
  • IELTS 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in any band for standard courses – some courses require higher
  • Standard XII English with 65% will also be accepted

Undergraduate (year 2/3)

  • Depending on qualifications and course - usually require 2/3 year Diploma post-Standard XII to be considered
