Business Management and Economics (extended degree) BSc (single honours)

Our Business Management and Economics programme is designed to develop you as a ‘business ready’ graduate: a confident, independent thinker with a detailed knowledge of business and management and equipped with the skills to adapt rapidly. It will prepare you for a career in business or in any organisation that values an awareness of economic issues.

This extended four year degree includes a foundation year, which provides students with a sound introduction to key elements needed for studying Business at degree level. The foundation year is carefully designed to build your confidence and abilities, develop your academic and study skills, and provide the subject specific knowledge that is essential for success.

During the degree, you will gain in-depth knowledge of organisations and their environments, including their relationships to society. In your second and third year, the focus is on exploring key theories and concepts in economics and their application in international business. This course will help you understand key concepts such as managing people, operations, logistics, marketing and business ethics. Additionally, you will learn how businesses can operate effectively in a multicultural environment.

In readiness for your future career, Roehampton will help you develop a range of skills that employers value: the ability to identify and solve business problems and to effectively communicate your ideas. You will acquire key attributes such as commercial acumen, self-reflection and emotional intelligence, alongside skills in research, analysis, numeracy and project management.

Our academics have a wealth of research and practical experience in economics and business and will support you to connect your learning to the realities of business and management. There will be support throughout from your Personal Tutor, who will work with you to map your career development and provide guidance on your learning. Alongside this, we provide a wide range of other opportunities to develop and learn, including a career mentoring scheme, student-led Business Society and online careers portal.

By gaining the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Level 5 Diploma in Management & Leadership, you will have an industry-recognised professional qualification and will be able to fast-track your progress towards Chartered Manager status. You will gain access to exclusive CMI networking events and lectures from CMI experts. You will also have access to ManagementDirect, an online learning portal which provides a wide range of resources, including around 3,000 publications such as the Harvard Business Review. The online portal also allows you to develop your interview skills, polish your CV and record your professional development.
