Human Resource Management (extended degree) BSc (single honours)

Our Human Resource Management programme will give you an excellent basis for a career in human resources in a range of organisations; both public and private. It is designed to make you a ‘business ready’ graduate: a confident, independent thinker, equipped with the skills to adapt rapidly to change.

The extended degree includes a foundation year, which provides students with a sound introduction to key elements needed for studying business at degree level. Our extended degrees in the Business School give students a thorough and supportive academic preparation for study. The foundation year is carefully designed to build confidence in students’ abilities, develop key academic and study skills, and provide the subject specific knowledge essential for success.

As a human resources specialist, you will learn how businesses get the most out of their employees, and the skills for successful people management. You will also gain an understanding of key concepts such as managing people, operations, marketing and finance. Additionally, you will learn how businesses can operate effectively and ethically in a culturally diverse environment.

In readiness for your future career, this course will help you develop a range of skills that employers value: the ability to identify and solve business problems and to effectively communicate your ideas. You will develop key attributes such as commercial acumen, self-reflection and emotional intelligence and gain skills in research and project management. This degree also includes an option for a semester-long Professional Work Placement during your second year, during which you will gain first-hand experience to develop your career and apply what you have learnt.

This course is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). On successful completion of your degree, you will be eligible for Associate Membership of the CIPD. During your studies you will have access to a wealth of resources through student membership. These include:

  • Study guides
  • HR factsheets
  • CIPD research reports
  • Business and learning and development journals

You will also be able to network with HR professionals at a number of CIPD events giving you the opportunity to develop your knowledge, skills as well as your industry connections. The University of Roehampton will pay the joining fee and student membership fee for all BSc HRM students during your first year of study.

Our academics have a wealth of experience in organisations that will support you to connect your learning to the realities of business and management. You will be supported throughout by your Personal Tutor, who will work with you to map your career development and provide guidance on your learning. Belonging to the Roehampton Business School, gain access to our extensive range of employability events, including workshops, and employer exhibitions. Alongside this, we provide a wide range of other opportunities to develop and learn, including a career mentoring scheme, student-led Business Society and online careers portal.
