MA Early Childhood Education

The program supports you in developing your knowledge and understanding of issues and practice through inquiry and research. The program provides a range of module choices, but you are encouraged to bring your own ideas and focus on your own particular professional interests. This award is gained through taking an early childhood education focus for 50% of the study, including the Dissertation.

Applicants must have substantial experience of practice in early childhood educational settings or must have a bachelor's degree in early childhood education.

The MA Early Childhood Education is offered as part of a suite of awards available through the MA Education Framework.

Campus Information

College Lane Campus

The main site of the university remains the College Lane campus, which houses the original Hatfield Technical College building. Notable among the buildings in this campus is the university's Learning Resource Centre, a combined library and computer centre. There is also a substantial collection of halls of residence and student houses, and the University of Hertfordshire Students' Union is headquartered at College Lane campus. The College Lane campus is also the location of Hertfordshire International College, which is part of the Navitas group, providing a direct pathway for international students to the University.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Entry requirements

You would need to have an honours degree (2:2 or higher) or equivalent qualifications and/or experience.  Overseas awards need to be recognised as equivalent by NARIC.

English language Grade 4 or above (Grade C or above under the old grading structure), or equivalent.

Applicants from non-English speaking countries must provide evidence of English language proficiency equivalent to overall IELTS Academic score 7.0 with 6.5 minimum in each band.

Previous Masters level study is considered for accreditation through the APCL process.

Non-certificated Masters level study might be accredited through the APEL process.  This must be completed prior to beginning study on the programme.

Postgraduate taught

  • Completion of a Bachelor degree in a relevant subject area with 55-65% or above depending on course
  • IELTS 6.0 or 6.5 (depends on course) with no less than 5.5 in any band - some courses require higher
  • Standard XII English with 70% will also be accepted
