Sustainable Places (MRes)

Program Available at Carmarthen Campus

The notion of sustainable places is often bound up in environmental, planning and behavioral policy and research thinking. While these areas are vitally important there are aspects of community and systems in society that are overlooked as representing a significant domain within sustainable places. For this reason, this research-led program has a focus on community, society, and systems for collaboration in a sustainable place. A sustainable place can be regarded as a locality, and a locality is a place that should be enabled for a future instilled with meaning by human experience, reclaiming the significance of the local in the global age and not just for a remembrance to the past. It is this reclaiming for the future that establishes the strength of this trans-disciplinary program which is aimed at rescuing and liberating the local be that system, community or societal attributes through the lens of sustainability places research.

The course will examine topics and tools from extensive discipline areas that are of concern to business, society, community, and systems to stretch students’ standpoints and considerations of sustainable places research.
