This course is ideal if you have an interest in technology and software development and how they can be applied to benefit individuals and organizations.
Core topics include foundations of computation, programming, multimedia, networks, databases, operating systems, software engineering, and professional issues. In addition, you’ll choose from a wide range of specialist modules to tailor your degree to your interests. As well as gaining an understanding of the wider context in which systems operate, you’ll develop your communication and team-working skills. Thanks to the nature of this degree, you’ll develop the broad skills many employers are looking for while keeping your career options open.
Work placement
You have the opportunity to undertake a professional placement for your third year. We encourage you to take advantage since on average placement students have a greater chance of finding good employment after graduation and achieve higher grades in their final year.
Work placements are spent in a paid job relevant to your degree. You apply in the second year, with support from the University using our extensive contacts with employers.
Recent placement students have worked at large organizations such as Apple, BT, IBM, Intel, GSK, Microsoft, and Xerox. Others have worked for smaller organizations, perhaps family-run or near home.
Study abroad
This course offers you the opportunity to study abroad in the Sandwich Year through the University's study abroad program. Study abroad opportunities are available worldwide and in Europe under the Erasmus+ Programme.
Campus Information
College Lane Campus
The main site of the university remains the College Lane campus, which houses the original Hatfield Technical College building. Notable among the buildings in this campus is the university's Learning Resource Centre, a combined library and computer centre. There is also a substantial collection of halls of residence and student houses, and the University of Hertfordshire Students' Union is headquartered at College Lane campus. The College Lane campus is also the location of Hertfordshire International College, which is part of the Navitas group, providing a direct pathway for international students to the University.

- BCC - Requires Maths A level. Other A Levels may come from a selection of either Engineering or Technology, Science, Design, Computing, or Business related subjects. General studies/critical thinking not accepted.

- DMM - Requires Extended Diploma in Engineering (DMM) to include Distinction in Further Maths
GCSE: Grade 4/C in English, Mathematics
Undergraduate (year 1)
- Completion of the Standard XII Certificate with 60-70% depending on points tariff required by the UH course. Some courses may require specific subjects
- IELTS 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in any band for standard courses – some courses require higher
- Standard XII English with 65% will also be accepted
