CERTIFICATE IV IN FITNESS
If you want to be a Personal Trainer, you will need to undertake the Certificate IV in Fitness. This national qualification allows you to train and develop your own clients in an unsupervised setting.

The Certificate IV in Fitness course will prepare you to:
Plan exercise programs for your clients
Apply your knowledge of exercise science principles
Undertake client postural appraisals and other fitness tests
Undertake functional range of movement and muscle testing

Job Outcomes
The program outcomes for this course are:
Workers qualified at a Certificate IV level are primarily employed as personal trainers in a fitness or leisure facility or in their own business.
This qualification provides a pathway to work in a diversity of fitness industry businesses including fitness centres, gyms, aquatic facilities, community facilities and in open spaces, where risk management (through risk assessment and hazard control processes) does not already exist.
A study pathway to the SIS50115 – Diploma of Sport and Recreation Management – Fitness Stream.
Preparation for further study and vocational skills with development of study and research skills, language and literacy skills, communication skills, time management, planning and managing projects, interpersonal skills and the development of techniques.
Additional outcomes include the attainment of a First Aid Certificate.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
You must meet both the academic and English language requirements.
Academic Requirements
- Completion of at least the equivalent of Australian Year 10,
- You must be at least 18 years of age.
- English Language Requirements
You must meet one of the following criteria:
- IELTS score of 5.5 (or equivalent), with no individual band score below 5.0; or
- ALG in-house English proficiency test that is equivalent to IELTS 5.5; or
- A Certificate IV level qualification (or higher) completed within the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) in Australia within 2 years before starting this course; or
- Completion of the Senior Secondary Certificate of Education in Australia and in the English language within 2 years before starting this course.
