Postgraduate Diploma in Specialist Teaching

The Postgraduate Diploma in Specialist Teaching provides students with a strong appreciation of specialist teaching as an interdisciplinary field of practice and the ability to apply their knowledge and skills in diverse cultural contexts.

The learning model is inquiry-based and employs a range of distance and other flexible learning options. Communities of interprofessional practice both within and beyond Aotearoa New Zealand will be developed.

The PGDipSpecTchg is made up of four courses (120 points), which include practical experience.

PSW Opportunity

  • During study, all students on a student visa can work up to 20 hours per week during semester and full time during vacations.
  • After completing Level 7 Bachelor’s Degree or Higher Qualification, a student will get a three years open post-study work visa.
  • After completing Level 8 Post Graduate courses of 1 year, students get 1 year PSW.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

If you want to study towards a postgraduate qualification, eg a Postgraduate Diploma, Masters, or PhD you must have one of the following:
 
IELTS Academic An average score of 6.5, with a minimum of 6.0 in reading, writing, listening and speaking
 
TOEFL iBT Total minimum score of 90, minimum score of 19 in reading, writing and listening. Please note UC only accepts TOEFL iBT scores from a single test date, not MyBest scores.
 
TOEFL PBT With a minimum score of 575 and TWE with a minimum score of 4.5
 
CCEL EAP Level 2 with a minimum B+ grade
 
CAE or CPE Score of 176 with a minimum of 169 in reading, writing, listening and speaking
 
Pearson Test of English (Academic) PTE with an overall score of 58 and no PTE communicative skills score below 50
 
NZCEL Level 5
