New Zealand Diploma in Applied Science (Level 6)

Gain in-demand skills for the fast-evolving commercial science and science laboratory sectors.
A Level 6 diploma such as this is the minimum required for work in a modern science laboratory. Science laboratories are part of a fast-evolving commercial science sector which encompasses businesses operating in food production, manufacturing and environmental management. The diploma can also lead to entry-level employment in medical laboratories.

This programme covers a range of science-related learning with a strong commercial focus. It combines seven mandatory courses in the areas of science, information literacy, quality management and project management, along with optional courses that enable you to tailor your programme to your specific area of interest.

You'll gain a sound understanding of the technology used in applied science workplaces and increase your knowledge in chemistry, microbiology and molecular biology in workplace contexts. You'll also learn about legislative compliance needed in complex work situations, for example workplace safety and hazardous substance management.

A 120-hour work placement will enable you to apply your classroom learning into a workplace context and gain essential real-world skills. Part-time up to 3 years.
