New Zealand Certificate in Maritime Crewing (Level 4) with a strand in Electro-technology

Get basic maritime knowledge and skills and become familiar with shipping operations, shipboard practice and survival at sea.

You will be prepared for a rewarding career in a global industry which has a continuous demand for well-trained and motivated people. 

You may find yourself working on a wide range of foreign going ships from cruise liners, ferries and container vessels through to support vessels in the oil and gas industry.

This programme combined with seatime and Maritime New Zealand requirements entitles you to apply for the electro-technical rating.

You will gain the required knowledge, skills and experience for eventual seagoing employment as a rating on board commercial ships.

Combined with sea-time, this certificate leads to careers as a rating on board commercial ships.

Completion of this certificate leads to entry into one of the three Level 6 Diploma programmes (nautical science, marine engineering and marine electro-technology).

DWR trainee, DWR qualified (after 2 months at sea), AB qualified (after 14 months at sea).

PSW Opportunity

  • During study, all students on a student visa can work up to 20 hours per week during semester and full time during vacations.
  • After completing Level 7 Bachelor’s Degree or Higher Qualification, a student will get a three years open post-study work visa.
  • After completing Level 8 Post Graduate courses of 1 year, students get 1 year PSW.

Diploma Level Programmes

  • All India Senior School Certificate (10+2) or equivalent with
  •  passes of 55% in 4 academic subjects

Degree Level Programmes

  • All India Senior School Certificate (10+2) or equivalent with
  • with passes of 70% in 4 academic subjects

Entry Requirements – English

English Language Equivalents

  • IELTS (Academic) 6.5; no one score below 6.0: TOEFL 575 (230), TWE 4.5. MIT ELP 6.5.
  • IELTS (Academic) 6.0; no one score below 5.5: TOEFL 550 (213), TWE 4.0. MIT ELP 6.0.
  • IELTS (Academic) 5.5: TOEFL 525 (190).

MIT English Language Requirements

  • Most MIT Diplomas and Degrees require a minimum of IELTS 6.0 (Academic) or equivalent. Some Diplomas and Degrees require IELTS 6.5 (Academic) or equivalent see programme for details. MIT Certificates usually require a minimum of IELTS 5.5 (Academic) or equivalent.
