NZ Diploma in Business

Get your future sorted with a business diploma from EIT. This programme is practically orientated and will provide you with the skills and knowledge for 21st century business.

This diploma is a stand-alone programme providing a firm understanding of business in the New Zealand environment along with the most valuable attributes that are required in the modern business era. You’ll choose from six majors / strands: accounting, leadership and management, administration and technology, project management, human resource management, and marketing and sales.

Accounting and leadership and management can also be used as a pathway to further study, transitioning straight to the second year of the Bachelor of Business Studies.

The programme will enable you to think conceptually and adapt to change. In particular, the programme is designed to:

  • Apply a broad range of business knowledge and skills as well as specialised knowledge and skills in selected fields of business.
  • Be proactive to changes in the local, national and global business environment.
  • Demonstrate business competencies including problem solving, decision-making, negotiating and using technology effectively.
  • Develop and manage innovative approaches to business.
  • Practise business in a legal, sustainable, ethical and culturally appropriate manner.
  • Communicate, collaborate and build networks effectively with a diverse range of individuals, teams and organisations.
  • Gather, select and analyse information from a range of sources to inform business practice.
  • Take responsibility for continued learning and career opportunities.

Career planning and course advice is offered to prospective students and members of the public who are considering their future study and employment options. The Career Centre is located in the Information Centre ( J Block) which is situated at the front of the Taradale campus. To help you get started in understanding career opportunities an excellent resource is Career Services rapuara, this has extensive information relating to 700+ careers including entry requirements, personal profiles, market information plus tools to assist in identifying career opportunities that reflect your interests and skills.

PSW Opportunity

  • During study, all students on a student visa can work up to 20 hours per week during semester and full time during vacations.
  • After completing Level 7 Bachelor’s Degree or Higher Qualification, a student will get a three years open post-study work visa.
  • After completing Level 8 Post Graduate courses of 1 year, students get 1 year PSW.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

A personal interview is available as part of the application process. Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Successful completion of NCEA [Level 2], OR
  • Successful completion of the NZ Certificate in Business (Accounting Support Services) [Level 4], the NZ Certificate in Business (Introduction to Small Business) [Level 3] or (Small Business) [Level 4], or the NZ Certificate in Business (Administration and Technology) [Level 3] or [Level 4], OR

An equivalent qualification including evidence of equivalent Literacy and Numeracy abilities as stated above.

If the applicant is 20 years or over:

  • Evidence of relevant knowledge, skills and experience.
  • In the latter two situations the applicant is required to participate in an enrolment interview with the purpose of verifying the evidence.

English Language Entry Requirements

All applicants must demonstrate an acceptable level of English Language fluency prior to acceptance in the programme. English Language fluency can be verified by achievement of one of the following within the last two years:

  • New Zealand Certificate in English Language Level 4 (Academic)
  • IELTS (Academic) score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5.0
  • PTE (Academic) score of 42 with no band score lower than 36

International equivalents to IELTS accepted by NZQA or successful study of a program in which English was the language of instruction (conditions apply)
