Master of Social Work (Qualified Social Worker Entry)
Develop the knowledge and skills to practice responsibly and reflectively as a professional social worker.
The Master of Social Work is a coursework program designed to provide higher degree coursework and meets the standards set by the Australian Association of Social Workers.
The course is available via graduate entry or qualified social worker entry.
What you will study
The program teaches you to research, analyze, and articulate a framework for inclusive and ethical professional social work practice. You will develop the skills to identify the cultural context of various approaches and their relevance to specific situations and populations and to delineate the connections between interpersonal practice, social policy, and research. Topics cover areas such as social work with diverse populations, complexities in work with children and families, mental health through the life course, and trauma and resilience.

PSW Opportunity
International students studying at Flinders University will be eligible to access an additional year in Australia on a post-study work visa, which means Masters graduate can get up to 3 years of PSW visa.
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must normally hold a Bachelor of Social Work recognized by the Australian Association of Social Work (AASW) or equivalent. Applicants must have completed either an AASW-accredited Bachelor of Social Work Honours or an AASW-accredited Bachelor of Social Work plus at least two years of professional work experience (paid or volunteer) or equivalent.
Inherent requirements
The Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Social Work meets the external Australian Association of Social Work (AASW) accreditation requirements. Both programs provide graduates with the necessary qualification to be eligible for membership to the AASW, and practice as social workers.
The Statement of Inherent Requirements is designed to help prospective students make informed decisions about whether they will be in a position to complete the requirements of either a Bachelor of Social Work or Master of Social Work. If you intend to enroll in either of these degrees look carefully at the inherent requirements to determine whether you will be able to meet them.
Practical experience requirements
You are required to receive a National Criminal History Check and Department for Communities and Social Inclusion (DCSI) screening and background checks, stating that you have successful clearances, in order to be eligible to undertake field placements. Students who do not receive DCSI clearances will not be able to complete their placement and therefore complete their degree. You are strongly advised to hold an Australian Driver’s Licence. Some placement agencies require students to receive vaccinations.
