Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Management

Take the first step towards a Masters qualification.

NMIT offers a Master of Applied Management pathway qualification. The Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Management is the first six months of the 15 month Master of Applied Management. You will complete the four core compulsory courses from the Master to be awarded a Postgraduate Certificate qualification and/or go onto the Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Management or Master programme.

This programme consist of four courses:

  • MGT801 Critical management issues
  • MGT802 Design thinking and innovation management
  • MGT803 Managing in a digital world
  • MGT804 Leadership and managing talent.

These courses are designed to give you a broad expertise in applied management and are recommended for people who are looking to pursue a career in management, or who are currently working in a management role and want to increase their skills.

Aims of the programme
The aim of this programme is to provide the opportunity for students to build a sound foundation of applied management skills and knowledge relevant to anyone in a managerial role, whether they are self-employed, or working for a business entity or a public, private or not for profit organisation.

  • Two eight weeks terms full time study over at least 5 months
  • Open entry for holders of a degree from all industry backgrounds
  • Study fully online, face-to-face on our Nelson campus, or a combination of both
  • Pathways into the Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Management and the Master in Applied Management.

Programme structure
Study full time over five months (Two terms including study break/s), or part-time. Courses are run on our Nelson campus or online through our NMIT Moodle online learning platform.

Job Opportunity Potential

PSW Opportunity

  • During study, all students on a student visa can work up to 20 hours per week during semester and full time during vacations.
  • After completing Level 7 Bachelor’s Degree or Higher Qualification, a student will get a three years open post-study work visa.
  • After completing Level 8 Post Graduate courses of 1 year, students get 1 year PSW.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Academic requirements 

  • A Bachelor’s degree

OR

  • Relevant skills and knowledge acquired through appropriate work or professional experience.

Alternative requirements

Applicants who are unable to evidence that they meet Academic entry requirements, but who can demonstrate acquired skills for postgraduate tertiary study gained through study, work and/or life experience, may be approved for alternative entry by the Curriculum Manager (or delegate)
