Bachelor's Degree in Communication Arts - Public Relations
As a Communication Major, you will be equipped with a broad base of knowledge as well as hands-on training in a wide variety of communication fields, preparing you for many career paths after you graduate. We provide a well-rounded education for an increasingly diverse communication and media landscape. Every Communication Major will take a core of classes in Public Speaking, Interpersonal Communication, and Basic Journalism, as well as selecting a series of theory classes in things like Mass Communication, Public Relations, Persuasion, Organizational Communication, or Acting. Then students will choose a specialization in at least one of the following emphases: Broadcasting, Public Relations, Journalism, Speech Communication, and/or Theatre. Public relations is unique and distinguishable from marketing and advertising due to its emphasis on building and maintaining mutually beneficial relationships with an organization’s internal and external publics as well as specialization in media relations and journalistic writing. Concord University public relations students have opportunities to build a strong portfolio of work which gives them a substantial edge in increasingly competitive job markets upon graduation. Graduates learn how to conduct complex social analyses, carefully construct media messages across multiple platforms, and navigate the ever-increasing presence of media. Within this specialization, you will also gain experience in one-one interviewing, promotional material production, writing press releases, and building campaigns. You will be prepared for your future career!
