As a mathematics major, you will sharpen your analytical skills and become a better problem-solver. You will develop the quantitative and statistical reasoning tools to succeed in across a variety of disciplines and careers paths. The mathematics major begins with calculus classes, which are enhanced by MAPLE, the computer algebra system. Courses in algebra and analysis build depth. If you want to pursue a particular topic, our faculty are members are eager to collaborate with you. Do an independent study or choose from a wide range of elective topics, including, probability and statistical inference; data-mining; operations research; scientific computing; and partial differential equations. Small classes foster collaborative problem solving and knowledge sharing. As a mathematics major, you will become a part of a caring and creative campus community, and develop strong relationships — both with peers and professors. Most students build lifelong connections that last well beyond graduation.
