Graduates of this program are competent and equipped to contribute to improving mental health service delivery because of their specialized knowledge and clinical competencies in CBT. Graduates can work in both private and public health care organizations and are trained to work in a range of primary mental health care roles. Graduates who are already in health professional roles are well-placed to embark on leadership positions clinically, academically, and through research opportunities.

Potential occupations include:

• mental health clinician*
• cognitive behavior therapist*
• low-intensity coach/clinician*
• accredited mental health social worker (with an undergraduate social work degree)*
• roles in higher education, training, and development.

• private practice/self-employment.

International students studying at Flinders University will be eligible to access an additional year in Australia on a post-study work visa, which means Masters graduate can get up to 3 years of PSW visa. 

Applicants for the masters must normally hold an approved undergraduate degree or equivalent in a health-related area – eg behavioral science, counseling, medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, psychology, or social work.

Practical experience requirements

As per Australian Government regulations, courses that have a placement involving contact with children, young people and/or vulnerable adults, will require students to undergo an Offender History Record Check prior to placement.
