Inclusive Studies in Special Educational Needs, Disability and Diversity BA (Hons)

This degree explores the key issues in special educational needs and inclusion, reflecting upon the main approaches to children’s, young people’s and adult services.

You will be challenged to explore concepts of inclusion and exclusion locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. You will become aware of the different dimensions of inclusion, including the social and cultural contexts. The content of this course has been specifically curated to prepare you for a career in this inclusive field.

You will learn through seminars and active blended learning. We regularly have external speakers from the inclusive field to come and talk with you about current practice. Additionally, this course will give you the opportunity to undertake work based learning across all three years of your degree in a range of settings, with a focus on your future career throughout your degree. You will be able to go on international visits and exchanges to study SEN and Inclusion in other countries and contexts, making lasting professional connections. There are also optional specialist routes that explore the use of ICT for working with individuals with SEND and the use of media and creative arts approaches to exploring inclusion.

Campus Information

Waterside Campus

In the summer of 2018 the University of Northampton moved to the brand-new Waterside Campus. This seven-year project saw a neglected brownfield site transformed into a successful and impressive new campus that facilitated a radical re-engineering of the University in terms of both teaching methodology and governance structures. aterside is a waterfront site of 24 hectares on the edge of the town centre. Its successful completion has turned a derelict site into a leading facility in the higher education sector. The project brief emphasised integration, of the University into the town and local community, and of departments, facilities and teams within the University itself. New pedestrian and road bridges and cycle routes link the site to the town, and public facilities and commercial outlets are part of a Waterside experience which continues beyond the University to local historic buildings and parks.
