Education Studies BA (Hons)

An Education Studies degree will help you to understand the key issues, policies and debates that are in education today. You will gain an insight into how education systems develop and how children and adults learn. The course is a strong foundation for a variety of careers.

You will have the opportunity to spend a term in a European university as part of the Erasmus scheme. This is subsidised by the EU and, normally, costs students very little extra than it would cost to live and study in the UK. If you decide to study in Europe, you may have less choice of modules for your other terms spent at Northampton.

We also offer a one-week study trip to an EU University, normally HAN University in The Netherlands, which costs in the region of £300-400. In recent years there have been other opportunities for short optional trips, for example to the USA, to the European parliament and to Sweden. These are very beneficial to students but do incur extra costs.

What is an education studies degree?

Campus Information

Waterside Campus

In the summer of 2018 the University of Northampton moved to the brand-new Waterside Campus. This seven-year project saw a neglected brownfield site transformed into a successful and impressive new campus that facilitated a radical re-engineering of the University in terms of both teaching methodology and governance structures. aterside is a waterfront site of 24 hectares on the edge of the town centre. Its successful completion has turned a derelict site into a leading facility in the higher education sector. The project brief emphasised integration, of the University into the town and local community, and of departments, facilities and teams within the University itself. New pedestrian and road bridges and cycle routes link the site to the town, and public facilities and commercial outlets are part of a Waterside experience which continues beyond the University to local historic buildings and parks.
