BA (Hons) in Outdoor and Adventure Education
Our four-year-degree links activity e.g. mountain biking to physiology or psychology. It is the only course validated with a one-year placement that you can do anywhere in the world. You will develop strong professional relationships because the staff is highly qualified in the practical domain. All of our theory and practice are taught by our own staff.
There are three themes you will study:
THEME ONE
You will consider how the individual makes sense of the adventure education experience. This could be understanding your own physiology or your own motivation for adventure in psychology for example. Critical reflection on your own personal experience is central to knowledge and understanding.
THEME TWO
You will consider how groups perform in the adventure environment through an understanding of group dynamics and teaching strategies. Consideration will be given to aspects such as leadership, facilitation, decision-making, and problem-solving.
THEME THREE
You will focus on your impact on the adventure environment, considering environmental philosophy, user conflict, and impact reduction.

Bishop Otter Campus
Our Bishop Otter Campus in Chichester is set in beautiful surroundings with plenty of relaxing green space and a combination of attractive, historic buildings and excellent modern facilities. Back in 1839, the campus was founded by William Otter, Bishop of Chichester. 180 years later, the University still retains a strong sense of history as original parts still remain. Chichester is a beautiful city which offers a wealth of history and culture. It has many historical places to discover such as Chichester Cathedral, Market Cross and Chichester City Walls. Alongside its history, Chichester is surrounded by breath-taking sandy beaches with East and West Wittering beaches only 20 minutes away from campus. The South Downs National Park begins just 1.5 miles from our Chichester campus. From rolling hills to bustling market towns, the South Downs National Park's landscapes cover 1,600km² of breath-taking views and hidden gems. With Brighton, Portsmouth and Southampton all under an hour away, the University of Chichester is perfectly placed for exploring the south coast.
