Fashion Textiles BA Honours

Overview
Why study fashion textiles* with us?

With our fashion textiles course, you’ll learn all about fashion and textile design construction in state-of-the-art facilities right here on campus. These include fully equipped fashion and textiles studios plus art and design workshops. You’ll be able to take advantage of silk screen printing, digital printing direct to cloth, traditional and electronic looms and industry-standard knitting machines.

Our campus is conveniently located for you to explore one of the world’s fashion capitals throughout your studies. We also have close links within the industry, ensuring that your work can be seen by the right people. We often host guest lectures and big industry names; in the past these have included Jonathan Saunders and Louise Gray.

You’ll learn through a combination of masterclasses, technical workshops and repeat practice to really master the whole process of designing clothes, which starts with research and design through to creation of garments. Working in a team, you’ll produce your own blog which will further your knowledge and understanding of the subject while helping to prepare you to make and present your own collection in year three.

Develop your textile creation skills with our course
Understanding what a job in the fashion industry looks like from the start of your course is the best way to prepare for the world of work. That’s why we ensure that practical work experience is part of your studies from the beginning. In your first and second year, you’ll assist third-year students with their final degree show, learning about all the different aspects of the fashion show and getting a taste for what’s in store for you. Additionally, you’ll undergo a six-week work placement in the second year, helping out designers prepare for London Fashion Week. All this means that your creativity and work are getting seen by industry professionals.

A degree in fashion textiles can lead to many exciting career paths and some of our past graduates have gone on to work in designers’ studios working with textile print, knit, or embellishments. This course can also open other fashion career avenues like collaboration with other designers, theatre styling, and branding.

Recent graduate Miles is now working as a designer for Surfdome while Conor Baxter was included in 15 up-and-coming young designers to know by photographer Arved Colvin-Smith and HUNGER’s fashion director Kim Howells, for his graduate collection in 2018.
