Social Care and Community Practice BA (Hons)

Our Social Care and Community Practice degree is offered as a three year course leading to the award of BA (Hons). The degree is designed using real-world material that equips you for employment either within Social Care or working with specific communities.

We will support you to achieve your career and study ambitions, which is why if you complete our Employability Plus Gold programme or Changemaker Gold certificate alongside your studies and if you haven’t secured full-time employment 12 months after graduating* we will secure a three – six month paid internship for you, or support you into postgraduate study.

You will be taught by academics from a range of backgrounds and work-based experiences. The core concepts that are covered in the degree are Human Rights and Social Justice, respecting diversity and the key skills required to work with a range of Service Users. You will benefit from a short shadow placement in your first year followed by an extended work based placement and reflective experience in the second year of the course.

Waterside Campus

In the summer of 2018 the University of Northampton moved to the brand-new Waterside Campus. This seven-year project saw a neglected brownfield site transformed into a successful and impressive new campus that facilitated a radical re-engineering of the University in terms of both teaching methodology and governance structures. aterside is a waterfront site of 24 hectares on the edge of the town centre. Its successful completion has turned a derelict site into a leading facility in the higher education sector. The project brief emphasised integration, of the University into the town and local community, and of departments, facilities and teams within the University itself. New pedestrian and road bridges and cycle routes link the site to the town, and public facilities and commercial outlets are part of a Waterside experience which continues beyond the University to local historic buildings and parks.

Job Opportunity Potential

The degree will prepare you for employment in the field of social care and working with diverse communities. These opportunities are in a wide range of voluntary, statutory and private sector organisations. You will experience two short shadow placements and an extended placement whilst on the course which will give you relevant practice experience to take to employers.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Standard entry requirements apply. A typical offer would be:

BCC at A-Level
DMM at BTEC
an Access Course must include 30 levels 3 credits at Merit.

We also ask that applicants hold a GCSE (or an equivalent qualification) in the English Language at grade C or above.

We welcome international applications and applications from students with a range of non-traditional educational or professional qualifications.

Please note that all students who enroll on the course may be required to complete a successful Occupational Health Screening and Disclosure and Barring Service Check prior to their first placement.
