Public Sociology MSc
All modules in the Msc Public Sociology are fully aligned to the Applied Sociology Curriculum recently approved by the British Sociological Association.
Our Public Sociology academic team draw on research-driven insights to articulate new and emerging issues, enabling students to use traditional and novel collaborative processes to work with individuals and groups from business, the public sector and civil society to develop new ways of addressing social issues.
Our MSc in Public Sociology aligns with the vocation of the sociological discipline which is dynamic and ever changing, with a long history of incorporating new theoretical and empirical insights into its analyses, often with the goal of empowering marginalized public. The MSc in Public Sociology aims to further contribute to revitalise the discipline of sociology, empowering students to become professional practitioners who can contribute to debates not just about what is or what has been in society, but about what society might yet be.
Campus Information
Waterside Campus
In the summer of 2018 the University of Northampton moved to the brand-new Waterside Campus. This seven-year project saw a neglected brownfield site transformed into a successful and impressive new campus that facilitated a radical re-engineering of the University in terms of both teaching methodology and governance structures. aterside is a waterfront site of 24 hectares on the edge of the town centre. Its successful completion has turned a derelict site into a leading facility in the higher education sector. The project brief emphasised integration, of the University into the town and local community, and of departments, facilities and teams within the University itself. New pedestrian and road bridges and cycle routes link the site to the town, and public facilities and commercial outlets are part of a Waterside experience which continues beyond the University to local historic buildings and parks.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
You will need to hold a first or second class bachelors’ degree in order to be eligible to apply for this course. The lower-second class honours degree may also be considered.
BANGLADESH
We accept the following qualifications:
- 4-Year Bachelor’s degree in Bangladesh from an institution listed on UKNARIC,
- Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Bangladesh from institutions listed on UKNARIC,
- Successful completion of a recognised pre-master's programme.
INDIA
We accept the following qualifications:
- 3-Year or 4-Year Bachelor’s degree – dependent on the awarding institution and final grade,
- Successful completion of a recognised pre-master's programme.
NEPAL
We accept the following qualifications:
- 3-Year or 4-Year Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university in Nepal,
- Successful completion of a recognised pre-master's programme.
PAKISTAN
We accept the following qualifications:
- 4 or 5-Year Bachelor’s degree from a recognised University,
- Master’s degree in Pakistan from a recognised university,
- Successful completion of a recognized pre-master's programme.
SRI LANKA
We accept the following qualifications:
- Successful completion of a 3-yr or4-yr degree in Sri Lanka from an intuition recognised by UKNARIC,
- A Second Class Honours degree from a UK institution or equivalent

- Details of your English Language competence, for example, Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOFEL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) tests or equivalent.
- Certified copies of your school certificates and any other relevant qualifications. A certified copy is a photocopy that has an original official stamp of your school, college, or university on it. The stamp should not be a photocopy.
- At least one reference (signed and on headed paper).
- A personal statement to explain why you are interested in studying your chosen course.
