Mental Health Nursing BSc (Hons)

Our Mental Health Nursing course takes you on a service user’s journey within community and hospital settings, allowing you to see the service through the patient’s perspective and identify where you can make positive changes. The course reinforces your positive attitude, provides you with evidence-based knowledge and equips you with effective practice skills, through a flexible and blended approach to learning. We also offer extra student support throughout your studies and during your practice. This means that you will be supported by a Nursing Academic during your practice at a Hospital.

We will support you to achieve your career and study ambitions, which is why if you complete our Employability Plus Gold programme or Changemaker Gold certificate alongside your studies and if you haven’t secured full-time employment 12 months after graduating* we will secure a three – six month paid internship for you, or support you into postgraduate study.

There is no health without mental health. One in four people are likely to experience some degree of mental distress. A mental health nurse can make a positive contribution in people’s lives and wellbeing. Our vision is to promote compassionate care through effective communication.

We want to make this a reality by recruiting people who that are passionate about caring for those with mental health problems and that want to make positive changes to the lives of others. Our BSc (Hons) course gives you a registration through the Nursing and Midwifery Council as a mental health nurse.

Campus Information

Waterside Campus

In the summer of 2018 the University of Northampton moved to the brand-new Waterside Campus. This seven-year project saw a neglected brownfield site transformed into a successful and impressive new campus that facilitated a radical re-engineering of the University in terms of both teaching methodology and governance structures. aterside is a waterfront site of 24 hectares on the edge of the town centre. Its successful completion has turned a derelict site into a leading facility in the higher education sector. The project brief emphasised integration, of the University into the town and local community, and of departments, facilities and teams within the University itself. New pedestrian and road bridges and cycle routes link the site to the town, and public facilities and commercial outlets are part of a Waterside experience which continues beyond the University to local historic buildings and parks.
