Leather Technology BSc (Hons)

For those interested in a technological or scientific qualification that will lead to an opportunity to work and travel within a manufacturing industry, the benefits offered by this course are outstanding. With a wave of retirements of the Boomer Generation within the next decade, the industry, which is already short of technically skilled staff, is searching for well-trained young executives to support and prepare for these senior positions.

Home and EU students who complete our Employability Plus Gold programme or Changemaker Gold certificate alongside your studies and who haven’t secured full-time employment 12 months after graduating* we will secure a three – six month paid internship for you, or support you into postgraduate study.

This course is unique in the UK and makes our graduates highly sought after by employers. During this course you are able to specialise in and focus on an aspect of the leather industry that you find particularly interesting. You will be exposed to a number of science disciplines and interact with industrial experts during workshops and seminars.

Our three-year Honours degree course is a complete preparation for entry into the leather industry. Our graduates can work in tanneries and leather chemical companies around the world or, with the increasing demand for leather skills amongst the top leather-using brands, in the sports, luxury goods, footwear, automotive and fashion sectors.

Campus Information

Waterside Campus

In the summer of 2018 the University of Northampton moved to the brand-new Waterside Campus. This seven-year project saw a neglected brownfield site transformed into a successful and impressive new campus that facilitated a radical re-engineering of the University in terms of both teaching methodology and governance structures. aterside is a waterfront site of 24 hectares on the edge of the town centre. Its successful completion has turned a derelict site into a leading facility in the higher education sector. The project brief emphasised integration, of the University into the town and local community, and of departments, facilities and teams within the University itself. New pedestrian and road bridges and cycle routes link the site to the town, and public facilities and commercial outlets are part of a Waterside experience which continues beyond the University to local historic buildings and parks.
