Multimedia Journalism BA (Hons)

If you’d like to pursue a career as a journalist, this multi-disciplinary course combines practical training in radio, TV, newspaper, magazine and online journalism with academic study and is the perfect foundation.

We will support you to achieve your career and study ambitions, which is why if you complete our Employability Plus Gold programme or Changemaker Gold certificate alongside your studies and if you haven’t secured full-time employment 12 months after graduating* we will secure a three – six month paid internship for you, or support you into postgraduate study.

Throughout the course, you will have the opportunity to study print, online and broadcast journalism practices, aspects of law, ethics and professional practice. In order for you to be successful in your journalism career, the course is underpinned by modules exploring and honing writing techniques and skills.

Your studies will be reinforced by opportunities to get involved with regular student publications and websites, consolidating what you have learned through your course.

You will develop a critical understanding of the professional skills you will need as a journalist, in a world where communication technologies play an increasingly central role.

Campus Information

Waterside Campus

In the summer of 2018 the University of Northampton moved to the brand-new Waterside Campus. This seven-year project saw a neglected brownfield site transformed into a successful and impressive new campus that facilitated a radical re-engineering of the University in terms of both teaching methodology and governance structures. aterside is a waterfront site of 24 hectares on the edge of the town centre. Its successful completion has turned a derelict site into a leading facility in the higher education sector. The project brief emphasised integration, of the University into the town and local community, and of departments, facilities and teams within the University itself. New pedestrian and road bridges and cycle routes link the site to the town, and public facilities and commercial outlets are part of a Waterside experience which continues beyond the University to local historic buildings and parks.
