Footwear and Accessories BA (Hons)

Utilising dedicated specialist workshops, you will study all the practical craft skills needed to produce footwear & accessories along with the creative design skills for portfolio production. Our Contextual Studies modules will broaden your understanding of fashion & design & underpin your personal design development.

Modules in Creative Leather Application with access to a tannery at the onsite Institute for Creative Leather Technologies makes this course the only one in Europe where students can experience the industry from ‘Hide to High Street’ creating highly employable graduates. You will also benefit from our connections with industry and live projects. Northampton is synonymous with footwear and is home to internationally renowned brands. Studying with us will give you the unique opportunity to make the most of this heritage.

Our ‘live’ projects are set by industry partners such as luxury leather goods manufacturers Tustings & heritage footwear brand Cheaneys. We offer 1st year students who successfully complete their live project the opportunity to study, all expenses paid, at a footwear academy in Italy for two weeks. We also expect students to enter external competitions such as the Cordwainers Student of the Year & the Drapers Footwear Awards; exhibit at Graduate Fashion Week & produce a catwalk collection.

Campus Information

Waterside Campus

In the summer of 2018 the University of Northampton moved to the brand-new Waterside Campus. This seven-year project saw a neglected brownfield site transformed into a successful and impressive new campus that facilitated a radical re-engineering of the University in terms of both teaching methodology and governance structures. aterside is a waterfront site of 24 hectares on the edge of the town centre. Its successful completion has turned a derelict site into a leading facility in the higher education sector. The project brief emphasised integration, of the University into the town and local community, and of departments, facilities and teams within the University itself. New pedestrian and road bridges and cycle routes link the site to the town, and public facilities and commercial outlets are part of a Waterside experience which continues beyond the University to local historic buildings and parks.
