Covering everything from public health and food safety to environmental protection, private sector housing improvement and occupational health and safety, our environmental health degree equips you with everything you need to enter a wide variety of careers.

The only fully-accredited environmental health degree in London, our BSc Environmental Health gives you the knowledge, certifications and skills to confidently enter into a career as an environmental health officer across all sectors.

You’ll explore the relationship between professional, domestic and leisure environments, build your understanding of their impact and learn the skills to assess and improve environmental health in a variety of settings.

Get transferable skills and hands-on experience with us
We’re the only undergraduate degree accredited by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH). By studying with us you’ll get access to specialist teaching and learning spaces, including a food inspection laboratory and a Grade 2 microbiology laboratory.

Our guest lectures and industry links will give you the opportunity to further enhance your knowledge of areas including practical food inspection, food safety, health and safety, and private sector housing.

Once you’ve completed your environmental health course, CIEH learning portfolio and professional interview, you’ll gain a Certificate of Registration from the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB), which means you’ll be qualified as an Environmental Health Officer.

Job Opportunity Potential

Completion of this degree and subsequent completion of the CIEH Learning Portfolio and Professional Interview will enable you to gain a Certificate of Registration from the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB) and be qualified as an Environmental Health Officer.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Middlesex University has a flexible and personalised approach to admissions and we accept applications from students with a wide range of qualifications and a combination of qualifications.

Applications from mature candidates without formal qualifications are welcomed, provided they can demonstrate appropriate levels of relevant ability and experience.

Applicants should also have one of the following:

  • A Level passes including at least one A level in a science or technology subject
  • A BTEC National Diploma or Certificate in an appropriate area normally with a minimum of three merits
  • A Relevant (Science) ACCESS course with a minimum of a pass mark
  • Appropriate Advanced GNVQ with at least three Level III passes at merit standard
  • Passed a Higher Education Foundation Science programme
