Secondary Education Science with Chemistry, PGCE

Want to be a secondary school science teacher? Begin your training at Greenwich with a secondary level PGCE in science.

Our Postgraduate/Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) prepares you to become a secondary school teacher of science, specialising in chemistry. You will focus on addressing the needs of pupils aged 11-16 and beyond, benefiting from the vast knowledge of the Royal Society of Chemistry and its representatives. Your resources include free online continuing professional development (CPD) courses to support you in your career.

During your time with us, you will develop your teaching skills, learning how to address the needs of secondary school pupils at Key Stage 3 and 4. You will also develop your expertise, practical knowledge and theoretical understanding of science. By the end of the course, you will be ready to be formally assessed against the national standards for Qualified Teacher Status.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Undergraduate Degrees (Bachelor's)

For entry to our four-year extended degree programs, you will need to have met the following:

  • Standard XII with a minimum of 50%
  • 70% in English in Standard XII or English language requirements

For standard entry to our Bachelor's programs, you will need to have met the following:

  • Standard XII with a minimum of 60%(70% for Law, Architecture)
  • 70% in English in Standard XII or English language requirements

Some Bachelor's degrees allow advanced entry to year 2 or year 3, depending on your study history.

For advanced entry to Year 2 and Year 3 you will need to complete:

Year 1 of a relevant degree with a minimum of 60%
Postgraduate Degrees (Master's)

For entry to our Master's programs, you will need to have met the following:

  • Four-year bachelor degree with a minimum of 55% in Final Year (However, if graduating from one of the top universities: Pune, Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Osmania, and JNTU a minimum of 50% in the final year is required)
  • 70% in English in Standard XII or English language requirements

Note: More specialized courses require four-year bachelor degree with a minimum of 65% in the final year.(However, if graduating from one of the top universities :Pune, Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Osmania and JNTU a minimum of 60% in final year is required)
