PSYCHOLOGY AND RELIGIOUS STUDIES BA (HONS)
PSYCHOLOGY
We provide a number of programs of study in Psychology. We have three Single Major Undergraduate programs. These are BSc Psychology, BA Psychology & Education, and BSc Sports Psychology. In addition, we offer 25 Double Major programs*. Double Majors allow students to combine a core curriculum on Psychology with the core curriculum of a second subject. Giving students a choice over what they study is important to us. The choice of programs allows students to study a course that reflects their prior interests, lived experience, or future goals.
Ethical practice and working within a shared set of values is also important to us; our University is deeply committed to serving the common good. We see Psychology as a discipline with the capacity, and responsibility, to make a positive contribution to how people live in everyday life. Through our teaching of Psychology, we strive to enable our students to grow into constructive citizens who are curious about people and motivated to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Beyond classroom learning, there are opportunities to enrich your chosen program of study in a way that will help you in developing your psychological thinking. They include going on a placement, working as a research assistant in a laboratory, traveling to another country as part of Global Hope, or under the Erasmus study abroad scheme.
Our enthusiasm for the discipline is reflected in our University’s TEF Gold Award, and our consistently high ratings in other reliable measures of the quality of a University; e.g. National Students’ Survey. If our departmental narrative matches with what you aspire to be, then come and study with us at Liverpool Hope University.
RELIGIOUS STUDIES
Religious Studies at Liverpool Hope explores the practice and significance of religion in contemporary society through the study of Christianity, Judaism, Islam, and Indic traditions such as Buddhism and Hinduism. A balance between the study of religious texts and lived religion in the contemporary world is maintained throughout the degree. Religious Studies pays close attention to what supporters of these religions believe and explores the very real differences that exist between various groups within each faith.
Throughout your studies, you will analyze and contextualize the theology behind key religions to appreciate their history and their relevance to the social and political landscape. All of our teachings are research-informed and you will be taught by highly-qualified academics, all of whom have a Ph.D. in the area, who are both active and published researchers and committed teachers. We work hard to provide top-quality educational opportunities for all our students, and the Department has recently invested heavily in learning resources; combined library holdings in Theology and Religion are now in excess of 100,000 volumes.
Above all, the Religious Studies degree treats religions as lived faiths by looking at the way that they are followed in Britain and across the globe today. You acquire skills in the different methods of studying religion. The degree looks at questions of faith and life and at the same time is intellectually challenging. By drawing out the complex issues that surround religious belief and expression, the degree equips you to engage with the pressing questions of our time and to play your part in promoting religious and social harmony.
